He was buried 2, 5 on 2 Dec 1941 4 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas. Wes married 2, 6, 7 Verlie GREGORY on 31 Aug 1907 in Ashley Co., Arkansas.

"...Mrs. V. Green and Mr. Wes Yelvington were united in marriage Saturday morning at Mr. Tom Dingler's..." and also "Marriage license to S. W. Yelvingon and Mrs. V. Green of Trafalgar."
Sept 1916:  requested "a letter" to leave Mt. Olive Church in Berea, Ashley Co., Arkansas [Mt. Olive records, p. 124].
1918:  WW I registration card has residence as Cooper, Delta Co., Texas; noted to be tall and slender with light hair (either blue or brown eyes--illegible; see the "scrapbook" link in the multimedia version of this report).
1920:  farm laborer in Hopkins Co, Texas.
1930:  residing in Cooper, Texas.

Samuel's death was the result of a fall on November 21, 1941 which fractured his skull.  [Death Certificate]

Verlie GREGORY [Parents] 1 was born 2 on 3 Sep 1887 3 in Arkansas 3. She died 2, 5 on 9 Jul 1949 4 in Dallas, Dallas Co., Texas 4. Verlie married 1, 6, 7 Samuel Wesley YELVINGTON "Wes" 8 on 31 Aug 1907 in Ashley Co., Arkansas.

Former Harlingen Resident Dies
   Funeral services will be held at 4 p. m. Tuesday from the Kriedler Ashcraft Funeral home for Mrs. Verlie Jones, 61, who died Saturday in Dallas.  The Rev. Harry V. Hamblen, of the First Baptist church, will officiate.
   Mrs. Jones lived in Harlingen from 1933 to '35.  Survivors are:  three brothers, C. M. Gregory, Santa Rosa; D. A. Gregory, Fremont; and M. T. Gregory, Harlingen; one sister, Mrs. D. M. Bawcom, Lake Charles, La; and two sons, Gregory Yelvington, Carlsbad N. M.; and Clifton Yelvintgon, Dallas.

Simpson E. POWELL 1, 2 was born 2 on 13 May 1897 in Ashley Co., Arkansas. He died 3 before Oct 2000. Simpson married Madeline BOX 1.

According to Simpson's 1918 WW I Registration Card, he was of "medium height and build" with "blue eyes and brown hair."  At this time, he resided on Route #1, Hamburg, Arkansas and was self-employed working near Milo, Arkansas. His closest relative was "J. T. Powell" who lived near Milo (this is likely John T. Powell, b. 18 Aug 1863).  (See the "scrapbook" link with the multi-media edition of this report).

Madeline BOX 1 died 2 before Oct 2000. Madeline married Simpson E. POWELL 1, 3.

  John H. Powell, 64, of Memphis, TN, owner/operator of A Cut Above Barber Shop, died of cancer Thursday, October 19, 2000. Funeral services were at Forest Hill Funeral Home East with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery East in Memphis.
  He was a member of Germantown Baptist Church and a Navy veteran. Mr. Powell was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Simpson Powell. He is survived by his wife, Nola S. Powell, three daughters, Tara Kettles of Alexander, Nola M. Piland of Pensacola, FL, and Dana Powell of Memphis, four sisters, Vadis Powers and Polly Riley of Russellville, Edith Watson of Little Rock, and Imy Wells of Pensacola, FL; a brother, Gale Powell of Memphis and one granddaughter
