John W. ROSS [Parents] was born in 1841 1, 2 in Georgia 2. He died in 1888 1. He was buried in Promise Land Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas 1. John married Amanda J. TAYLOR "Mandy" 4 on 12 Feb 1868 3 in Ashley Co., Arkansas 3.

Amanda J. "Mandy" TAYLOR [Parents] 1 was born on 9 Sep 1848 2 in Clarke Co., Mississippi 2. She died on 14 Apr 1889 3 in Ashley Co., Arkansas 3. She was buried in Promise Land Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas 4. Mandy married John W. ROSS on 12 Feb 1868 5 in Ashley Co., Arkansas 5.

   Soon after Mandy's February 1868 marriage to John W. Ross in Ashley Co., Arkansas, they headed to California.  In the 1870 census taken in July they are found residing in Marysville TS, Yuba Co., California.  Sometime prior to September 1879, they came back east to the Indian Territory of Oklahoma, where they stayed until at least June 1882.  They eventually returned to Ashley Co.  Both Mandy and John died relatively young.  John died in 1888 being around 47 years old.  Mandy died the next year at the age of 40.  
    Notice of her death was published in the April 18, 1889 Ashley County Eagle:  "Mrs. John Ross died Sunday morning at the home of L.C. Taylor."  Both Mandy and John are buried in the Promise Land Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas.

M. F. Taylor, Former Co. Clerk, Judge, Lobbyist Buried Tuesday
M. F. "Dobbin" Taylor, a former Ashley County Judge and one of the state's best known lobbyists died Sunday.  Mr. Taylor, who represented timber, oil and chemical interests at every legislative session since 1941, was often called "the dean of the Third House" of the General Assembly.
   Mr. Taylor, 78, was born in Hamburg to Newsome R. and Cora Ray Taylor, pioneer settlers of Ashley County.  He was executive vice president of the Arkansas Wood Products Association with headquarters at Little Rock for 10 years, resigning in 1978. He had been governmental relations representative for International Paper Company for five years. He had also been a governmental relations representative for Monsanto Chemical Corporation and Lion Oil Company.
   Mr. Taylor was in the petroleum marketing business in Hamburg as owner of Taylor Oil Company, Inc. He was a past president of the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association and a member of its Board.  Mr. Taylor was Ashley County Judge from 1941 to 1947, and was circuit clerk for four years before being elected county judge. He was also a former member of the Hamburg City Council.  For four years, he was executive secretary and treasurer of the Arkansas County Judges Association in which he held a lifetime membership.  He was a member of First Baptist Church, a 50 year mason and a Shriner. He was also a past president of Prairie Golf and Country Club.
   Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Woods Taylor; a son, M. Frank Taylor, Jr., of Hamburg; a daughter, Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Wharton of El Dorado; three sisters, Mrs. Effie Shell, Mrs. Reba Shell and Mrs. Mae Tweedy, all of Hamburg, and five grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Jimmy Murphy, Jim Wheelock, Erskine Harriman, James Nolley, Billy Veazey, Richard Holloway, Lexie Woods, Jack Carpenter and Hampton Etheridge.
   Funeral services were at 10:3 a. m. Tuesday by Dr. Tommy Cunningham at First Baptist Church in Hamburg. Burial was in Hamburg Cemetery by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Edwin Taylor "Eddy" SHELL [Parents] [scrapbook] 1 was born 2 on 6 Apr 1937 in Lubbock, Lubbock Co., Texas. He died on 2 May 2008 3 in Bossier City, Bossier Pa., Louisiana. He was buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bossier Pa., Louisiana 3. Eddy married Sue Ellen DOBBINS.

   Dr. Eddy Shell, 71, died, May 2, after a lengthy bout with cancer. Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Funeral Home, Haughton on Highway 80 East, Tuesday, May 6, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. The funeral will be held at Hill Crest Chapel, at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Pastor David Daniel of the Broadmoor Assembly of God will conduct the service. Interment with military honors will follow.
   Shell was born April 6, 1937 in Lubbock, TX. The family moved to Arkansas and he later became the youngest Eagle Scout in the state. He graduated from Springdale High School. After graduation from Louisiana Tech in 1960, he settled in Bossier City, Louisiana and started his teaching career. He earned a BA (Louisiana Tech), MA (Louisiana Tech), Ed.S. (Northwestern State College) and Ph.D (Pacific Western University). He was a teacher and debate coach for 7 years at Bossier High School. He also persued a career in photography that lasted over 40 years. He later became one of the original seven teachers to open Bossier Parish Community College in 1967 and taught there for over 40 years for a combined total of 48 years in public education. He was Educator of the Year in Bossier Parish in 1970 and 1995 and Mr. Bossier Parish in 1970. During his tenure as an educator, he was also a member Louisiana National Guard, and the Reserve Components of the USNR, USMCR and USAR for over 30 years. He was the founder and Director of the first Day Time Truancy Center in Louisiana. There are now 12 truancy centers scattered over the state. Shell was a member of numerous civic organizations that includes the Red River USMCL, SARC (W5ZBC), Temple Lodge 448 AM& F. He was a member of the professional photography association for over 20 years. He served as President of PPLA in1981-82. He served on the Bossier Parish Police Jury representing south Bossier for 10 years. He was a member of Broadmoor Assembly of God.
