  Rev. Harold White, 90, of Bryant died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Baptist Health Center in Little Rock. A native of Hamburg, he had lived in Bryant for the past nine years and was a former resident of England, AR. He was a retired Baptist minister and had been a pastor for over 53 years.

   Lillie Mae Tweedy, 94, of Hamburg died Friday, September 7, 2001, at the Summit Hospital in West Monroe, LA. A native of Ashley County, she was a homemaker, the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Harold Tweedy; and two sons, Ray Wilfred Tweedy and Robert Tweedy.

He was buried 4 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas. Joe married 5 Eliza E. THOMPSON on 9 Sep 1888 in Ashley Co., Arkansas.

July 1875:  joined Mt. Olive Baptist church by "experience and baptism" (Mt. Olive Records, p. 39).
Aug 1881: elected as an alternate delegate to the church association (Mt. Olive Records, p. 53).
Feb 1884: brought up on charges of dancing and using profane language; admitted to and reconciled May 1884 (Mt. Olive Records, p. 57)
August 1894: Joe was ordained a deacon of Mt. Olive baptist church (ibid, p. 87).
November 3, 1912:  Joe and the family leave Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  [ibit. p. 112].
Joe served as Ashley County judge from 1912 to 1916 ["Reflections of Ashley County", p. 90].

Eliza E. THOMPSON [scrapbook] 1 was born 2, 3 on 27 Feb 1870 in Arkansas. She died 3 on 14 Aug 1959. She was buried 3 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas. Eliza married 4 Joseph Holmes RILEY "Joe" on 9 Sep 1888 in Ashley Co., Arkansas.

Bartie was presumably named after Barton Kimbro, a doctor residing in the region at this time.

Edward Mears "Ed" RILEY [scrapbook] was born 1, 2 on 18 Jul 1899 in Arkansas. He was baptized in Aug 1909 3 in Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Ashley Co., Arkansas 3. He died 2, 4 on 14 May 1982 in Hamburg, Ashley Co., Arkansas. He was buried 2 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas.

From Ed's 1918 WW I Registration Card, he is noted as being of "medium height and build with blue eyes and dark hair." At that time he was residing in Hamburg, and working for his father farming. (See "scrapbook" link with the multi-media edition of this report).

James William "Bill" RILEY [Parents] [scrapbook] was born 1, 2, 3 on 14 May 1891 in Mist, Ashley Co., Arkansas. He was baptized in Aug 1905 4 in Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Ashley Co., Arkansas 4. He died 2, 5 on 14 Dec 1948. He was buried 5 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas. Bill married 2, 6, 7, 8 Lillie Novella MORROW "Novella" on 22 Mar 1914 in Fountain Hill, Ashley Co., Arkansas.

   Bill joined Mt. Olive Baptist church by "experience and baptism" in 1902.

"John W. Riley and Miss Lovella Morrow united in marriage by Justice M. E. Sullivan, at the home of bride’s parents in Fountain Hill, last Sunday." [This clearly refers to James W. Riley and Novella Morrow, but either the original paper is incorrect or there was a trascription error].
   From Bill's 1917 WW I Registration Card, he is noted as being of "medium height and build with blue eyes and dark hair."  At this time his occupation is "farming" and he is residing in Mist, Arkansas.  (See the "scrapbook" link with the multi-media edition of this report).
   Bill was the 1920 US Census enumerator for Bearhouse Township, Ashley Co., Arkansas.
   In 1930, Bill and Novella moved their membership from Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
   Bill resided on a farm at the intersection of Bearhouse and Lee Creeks, near the original homestead of James Cooper Riley.  He later moved to Fountain Hill, Arkansas and operated a gas station and store (Reflections of Ashley County, p. 376).

Lillie Novella "Novella" MORROW [Parents] [scrapbook] 1 was born 3, 4 on 28 Feb 1897 in Johnson Co., Arkansas 2. She died 5, 6 on 23 Mar 1991 in Hamburg, Ashley Co., Arkansas. Novella married 3, 6, 7, 8 James William RILEY "Bill" on 22 Mar 1914 in Fountain Hill, Ashley Co., Arkansas.

   Novella joined Mt. Olive Baptist church "by letter" in 1914, presumably at the time of her marriage to Bill Riley.  She remained a member there until 1930, when her membership was transferred to another church "by letter".  [Mt. Olive Records, p. 117].
   Novella's obituary is published in the March 27, 1991 edition of the Ashley County Ledger.

He died 2 on 17 Dec 2003 in Sacramento, California from heart attack. He was buried 2 on 3 Jan 2004 in Placerville Cemetery, El Dorado Co., California. Floyd married 1, 4 Annis Oberlin FRENCH "Oberlin" on 29 Dec 1937 in Ashley Co., Arkansas.

  Floyd H. Riley, 87, was born at Fountain Hill on February 25, 1915, and died at Sacramento, CA, on December 17, 2003, of a heart attack. He attended schools in Fountain Hill and Hamburg and was raised on the family farm near Berea. He was a descendant of early Ashley County settlers James Cooper Riley (great grandfather) who help lay out the town of Hamburg and Joseph Holmes Riley, (grandfather) who served as county judge. A farmer at heart, he also was a carpenter, shipwright, office machine repairman and merchant. During the depression, he worked for the W.P.A. in Jerome. During World War II, he worked for Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond, CA. During the early 1950s, he moved his family to South Lake Tahoe where he and his wife Oberlin established Tahoe Office Supply. After selling Tahoe Office Supply in the mid 1970's, Floyd worked for the Livermore, CA, school district until he retired.  He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, of which he was active as a deacon and elder. He was also a former member of the Kiwanis Club, Nature Club and Camera Club. Floyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, CB radio, and his computer.

Born and raised in Hamburg, he was a member of Van Buren First Baptist Church, a retired regional director for the Farmers Home Administration in Crawford County and an U. S. Army veteran. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and had lived in Van Buren since 1955.
